Travel on horseback through the Tien Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan, following old shepherds’ routes with local Kyrgyz horsemen.
We ride through walnut forests, high pastures and wide foothills, moving across the landscape as the shepherds have done for generations.
Journeys
We run a small number of departures each year, shaped by over twenty years of experience in Kyrgyzstan.
Groups are small, and each journey is supported by a full mobile camp that moves with us through the mountains.
Two distinct routes are offered.
Sary-Chelek follows forested valleys and a chain of mountain lakes.
At-Bashi moves through wide foothills and open grazing country, with faster riding across high plains.
About
Alexandra Tolstoy has been travelling in Central Asia for over twenty years.
She first crossed the region on horseback as part of a nine-month journey along the Silk Road, and has returned ever since, working closely with the same Kyrgyz horsemen and camp team over many years.
She now runs a small number of riding journeys each year in Kyrgyzstan.
